It's been awhile since I've done an outfit post.

Fall is officially here in NYC. In a blink of an eye, the summer is gone. The cold weather and grey skies have brought on a slight seasonal depression. The only thing I do love, is layering! I'm still loving my grey sweatshirt from last season.

This year, I was lucky to get to see the Ports 1961 show. Lincoln Center definitely has a different vibe then the tents at Bryant Park. The open atrium feels like a big runway itself. Everyone is dressed to the nines.

The Port 1961 show got off to a late start as most fashion shows do. The collection was pretty. There were a lot of pieces I wouldn't mind adding to my own closet.

The theme of the show was based on the sandy landscapes of the North African deesert. The color palette was neutrals with purple and green and sapphire blue. There were alot of pretty drapey looks.

I went to check on Mario Batali's new Italian food hall, Eataly. It was a sensory overload. Everywhere I turned there was something delicious to entice my sense of smell, taste and sight. It was like a slice of Italy right in the middle of New York City.

I should have waited until the hype died down before I went to check it out. Going on the second day was a mistake. I had to fight my way through. I don't even think I got to see half the foodie mecca.

What I did get to see, didn't disappoint. The size of the space alone is overwhelming. It occupies the old Toy Factory building.

I wanted to find a creative way to ask my sister, sister in law to be, best friend and high school friend to be part of my wedding.

While reading through my wedding blog list, I found the cutest D.I.Y bridesmaid card project from Once Wed.

This was my first D.I.Y project for the wedding. Luckily, there are so many paper resources in the city, so finding all the supplies was fun!

Then came the challenging part, actually making the cards. I felt like I was doing another Parsons freshman year project.

It was hard cutting the bodies to be perfectly the same size. I guess my scissor skills are a little rusty. All the girls are wearing grey dresses in the shade of grey I want in real life.

Cutting the hair with an xacto knife was making me crazy. I don't know why I had so much trouble getting them to all be the same size. I even used a template.

In my little package I included a photo card with a heartfelt note. I chose pictures that capture us in laughter or just being silly.

I also added a postcard in my wedding colors with location details and date. I love the Martha Stewart edge punches I found at Micheal's. They have a variety of shapes and borders you can choose from.

Everything was packed together in a envelope sealed with a cute button sticker and Japanese masking tape in yellow.

I love that the dress are simple, but can be personalized with the brides style.

Brides and entourage are allowed to make appointments to try on dress. There are three large dressing rooms available. Each room is decorated differently. All come with tissue boxes.

It's been awhile since I've been here. I know, i know, I've been a bad blogger :(

Life has been moving fast and 2010 is turning out to be a year of big changes for me. I got promoted at work to Designer status and I got engaged! :)

I've been in full wedding planning mode! Luckily, I was able to attend to opening of the new J.Crew bridal boutique. There were so many pretty and inspiration things lurking in every corner!!

In the center of the store, there is a table filled with clutches, Essie nail polish, perfume, lacy under pinnings, and hair pins galore. So many sweet things to lust over.

I've been going on a spending spree lately, my work bonus has thrown me a couple of extra bucks and its itching to be spent. Technically I should be saving, but who wants to be practical when all these fun Spring things are all over stores.

The other day I was at Lord & Taylor and saw these Dolce Vita Pela sandals in black. The leather is buttery smooth and the height of the wedge is comfy! I think I could actually walk around in them for a day. I owe one too many pairs of black shoes and I think the grey color would look fresh for Spring and update a drab winter outfit with the right pair of tights.

These are on the top of my shopping list!

Just some random things from this week.

After hunting every NARS counter. Finally found this yummy nail polish, Purple Rain. The color reminds me of grape popsicles. Excuse my crusty dry cuticles.

I've been eyeing these YSL's for awhile. Missed them when they were in stores. Missed them when they were in the outlets. Finally found someone selling them on Ebay. I guess it was meant to be. :)

I got the new Prada book! Boyfriend's sister got it delivered to her workplace from the Prada offices. She works in finance. So not really sure how that works. I guess I won't question it cause now this lovely book is part of my library.

Pat Benatar sang "Love is a battlefield".

Someone should have said Fashion is a battlefield! With all the warring going on between the design team, merchants and the production team. Everyday is a sparring lesson. As a designer, its always a struggle with the production team who are price conscious about everything. For me as a designer, its hard to have these limitations when you design. You want to use the best fabric, trims and techniques. Then you have the merchandisers, who want to "design". I've learned to be patient and compromise. I think that's one of the biggest lessons you learn working at a large company.

This year I'm making New York City my valentine. We've "dated" for ten years officially. With love comes gratitude. No matter how many times I complain about the weird smells, slow subways or crazy rents. I still love my city. And heres why:

-I love that young people give up their seats for elderly on the bus.
-I love that this city never sleeps.
-I love that everyone is from somewhere else.
-I love that you can buy meat and rice from a cart at 3 am.
-I love that my dry cleaners know me by name.
-I love that when the buildings are light up at night it still makes my stomach jump with excitement
-I love that after living here for 10 years I still discover new things about the city.
-I love that our museums are filled with things you cant see anywhere else
-I love that there are some of the most delicious restaurants with exciting things to eat.
-I love that the sidewalk is a runway.
-I love that you can skate, run, blade, read, bike, see a concert, buy a pretzel, tan and go to the zoo in Central Park.

Last weekend I was visiting some friends in New Jersey. They suggested we have lunch at Harold's New York Deli in Edison. This place should be on the Man vs. Food show as part of a challenge. Everything there is BIG! Their portions can feed a whole family.

We decided to try the corned beef and hot pastrami sandwiches.

Between the five of us, we didn't even make a dent in this thing. With endless rye bread and a pickle bar. I was stuffed after one sandwich. It was so tasty and I wanted to keep going, but my pants were feeling tight.

They also have the biggest fries I've ever seen. What kind of mutant potatoes did these things come from?!

There was no way we had room for dessert, but everyone else in the restaurant didn't seem to pass on a slice from one of their massive cakes. These things are the size of two phone books.

And people wonder why America is fat!

My outfit today feels kind of boyish and moody. Work has been getting on my nerves and sometimes I really question why I decided I ever wanted to be a fashion designer. I guess my mood subconsciously translated to my outfit when I got dressed this morning. It is my homage to my favorite band ever, Nirvana. I remember in middle school I would come home from school and watch MTV (when they used to play music videos) and love the grungy look of Kurt Cobain. I admit I was a nerd in middle school and didn't feel cool enough to wear what I saw. The torn up jeans, flannels and Doc Martens were left to the more "popular" kids at my school.

Finally, my 8th grade dreams come true and I bought myself a pair of Doc Martens. They are the most comfortable shoes and I love feeling like I'm stomping around.

Of course, even this grungy girl needs a little bit of sparkle.

I've never owned anything animal print. I don't have anything against it, I would see other people wearing it and think it was fine. I just thought it wasn't me.

I was in Zara the other day finally getting my hands on the leftovers of a sale that been going on for a few weeks. This dress immediately caught my eye. My first step into the animal world! I love the deep red color and the fact it looks more polka dot-ish.

I got these Gucci booties on super sale and one of my best buys! They go with everything and the shape of the toe and heel are perfection.

Happy New Year! I love that feeling you get on the first day of the new year. Excitement, hope, renewal, and anticipation. I feel like the slate is clean again, time to refresh and reinvent. Hopefully, 2010 will be great!

I know I've neglected this sad little blog. I'm surprised there are even any readers. Work has been a nightmare , my internet was out of commission at home and I've been keeping myself busy on the weekends.

Here is a few things I've been up too.

A good friend of mine was on an episode of Top Chef America. I was there to cheer him on. It was amazing to see all the elements come together to become the final show you see on tv.

My view. It was no easy feat being in the audience. 6 hours of filming, 2 bathroom breaks and no food. All those delicious smells were almost torturous.

Thanksgiving feels like ages ago. Spent the day cooking with my best friend who joined us this year.

So much food.

My obsession with David Chang of Momofuku fame has deepened. He is planning on opening a new restaurant this year, Ma Peche. For now, it is serving a preview menu at the Chambers Hotel. Spicy popcorn with nori. Now why don't they serve this in movie theaters?!

I'm still alive. Work has been owning me lately, lots of late nights and weekends thanks to my new boss. The industry is filled with angry, bitter women who have no friends or significant others. I can see why. Working these crazy hours doesn't leave you much time for a social life! Or even time for yourself. I haven't seen any friends for weeks and I rarely get to speak to my boy during the day.

Luckily, a few weeks ago the best friend and I had our annual Fall trip to Boston. Being only a couple hours away by car, its the perfect place for a mini getaway. Every year when the air gets crisp and the leaves start changing colors, we both have one thing on our mind.

All of our trips revolve around food. This trip was no different.

When the boyfriend and I first started dating, he took me to his favorite restaurant in the city, Le Bernardin. I was wowed by the amazing presentation and every delicious course that came out of the kitchen by Eric Ripert. Ever since then, hands down Le Bernardin has become one of my top New York City restaurants. In my fan club, is the New York Times which has given it 4 stars and the Michelin Guide which given it 3 stars over a span of 20 years.

Eric Ripert has a new show on PBS called Avec Eric. We get to follow him on his travels around the world. We see where he finds inspiration, meets people along the way and then takes what he learns to bring a dish that is easily prepared by you! I know sometimes coooking can be intimdating, but he makes it so easy. I am literally drooling everytime I watch this show!

He had a screening of his show and Q&A session at the Whole Foods on Bowery.

But, the boyfriend and I couldn't even hang on until showed up . We were so hungry and the thought of watching all the delicious food made us delirious. We ended up leaving and catching dumplings at my favorite place in St. Marks, Dumpling man. The pork seared and chicken seared ones are my favorite!

I'm looking for a new job. I've been at my current company for 3 years and I'm just not feeling it anymore. I need a new year with new beginnings.

I feel like I'm in such a slump with my portfolio. I wish I had a full month to dedicate my brain just to concentrate on it and make it best I can.

I quickly did a few groups for an impromptu interview a few weeks ago. I hate being rushed though.

My favorite part has always been making the mood boards. I love coming up with ideas of who this girl is, where is she going and what does she want to wear. If I could just make mood boards for a living, I would be quite happy.

They're looking pretty rough. I love ink drawings. I hate when I have to paint them with color and they start looking cheesy to me.

I found more inspiration pictures of Gwyneth Paltrow's hair in the November issue of British Elle. She is so cute! I love having pictures to bring to my hairdresser.

Here's what my hairdresser Motoki came up with. I'm not used to having my hair so short in the back. I feel like Kate Gosselin. It's going take some getting used too, but I do love this light and airy feeling to my hair. I wanted to maintain my hair since this high maintenance haircut requires daily straight ironing and blow drying. I finally got my hands on the Moroccan oil everyones been raving about. I LOVE it. I have tried just about everything out there for dry hair and this worked instantly. My hair is so soft, that I end up touching my hair all day long. It smells so yummy too. I'm a believer!

I've always been a little skeptical about socks worn with sandals. I just imagine touristy Americans that wear white tube socks with Tevas and fanny packs. The much copied and beautifully styled J.Crew catalog made me rethink my previous notions.

Then Leighton Meester shows up at the Louis Vuitton S/S 10 show with the socks/sandal combo. So I decided to give it a try. It did garner some weird looks from coworkers, but my socks made me happy. Thats all that counts right?

Last weekend, a few of my friends and I made a road trip to Princeton, New Jersey to go apple picking. The weather was drizzly and cold, but since we made the drive out we decided to make the most of it. When we got there luckily the rain stopped just enough for us to pick a few apples.

The farm we went to, Terhune Farm has both vegetables and fruits to pick all year round.

At the on site store, we were lucky to get a just out of the oven batch of apple cider donuts. They were AMAZING!

We started a bit late in the apple picking season, so most of the varieties were all picked.

I loved the tart little crab apples. I was picking and eating at the same time.

With our fruits of labor, we made an apple crisp.

I was thinking of doing the blunt medium bob a la Gweny. I've loved her style, since the days she was dating Brad Pitt. I thought her hair and clothes were always spot on. I guess things haven't changed. She still looks amazing!

I just dug out my American Apparel raglan pullover and forgot how much I love it. Its so comfy! I need to get more colors. I always have trouble finding jeans. Uniqlo's straight leg and skinny jeans fit perfectly and you cant go wrong with free hemming!

I found this bracelet at H&M for $5! I love its chunkiness.

This necklace was a steal from the Gap last summer. They have some really cute pieces in stores right now!

Lately, I've been gravitating to the jewelry section more and more. There's nothing like a big statement ring or necklace to pop an "old" outfit.

I cant even begin to tell you how excited I am for the Tim Burton retrospective at the MOMA. Opening on November 22, the exhibit will feature his earliest childhood drawings through his mature work with paintings, storyboards, digital and moving-image formats, puppets and maquettes, props, costumes, ephemera, sketchbooks, and cartoons.

He made me fall in love with Johnny Depp when I first watched Edward Scissorhands. I love his signature dark, moody, quirky vibe in all his work.

This months Harpers Baazar, features a fashion editorial of Tim Burton's world re-imagined.

I cant believe we're already in October! Time sure does fly and the temperatures have dropped accordingly. During the fall and winter months, my closet usually looks like a black hole like most New Yorkers. I've always been drawn to black and any shades of gray. Hence, my blog name.

Last week, the bff J and I had one of our weekly girl talk dinners. Our dinners always end with dessert. She and I both have such major sweet tooths! No matter how full we are, we can never say no.

We stopped by La Bergamote in the Meatpacking District. Its a very quaint little patisserie. When we walked in we were greeted by a case of deliciousness. It was so hard to choose! Everything made my mouth water.

A tasty invasion.

We decided to share the Bergamote, their signature dessert and a grape macaron. The grape macaron had such a tangy and sweet taste. I can still taste it! The signature dessert was AMAZING as well.

After stuffing ourselves, we headed over to Milk Studios for the Sam Haskins opening presented by Tommy Hilfiger.

The pictures didn't really impress me much.

I'm too shy to ask celebs to take pictures, so all we could manage was this terrible blackberry photo of Nicky Hilton. She is VERY thin in person and really tall. She seemed bored.

It seemed like all the girls of NYC called each other and decided to dress exactly alike. The "uniform" of the night was a black boyfriend blazer with short skirt/shorts, American Apparel top of some sort and ankle booties/strappy black shoes and a Chanel or Balenciaga bag.

Sorry for the lack of updates lately. I was in a major angst mood last week. Sometimes I don't know if I'm cut out for the fashion world. Parsons definitely prepared me for the "real world" with all the favoritism and ass kissing going on with students, teachers and a certain Mr. Tim Gunn. Five years and a diploma later, I still cant compromise my integrity to get ahead in my career. I just believe in hard work, talent and dedication. Unfortunately those aren't always the traits that get you ahead in this industry.

Maybe the Netflix gods were feeling sorry for me, cause this movie showed up in my mailbox and reminded me of why I do love fashion so much.

Valentino is genius! His gowns are truly a work of art and absolutely beautiful. However, a lot of the credit has to go to those women who work in his sample room. Their hands are the real tools that create Valentino's beautiful gowns. After seeing them work, I realized that sometimes fashion can be a thankless job. Someone could take all the credit for something that you put your blood, sweat and tears into. But at the end of the day, you are doing something that you are so passionate about that you're just grateful to wake up everyday and be able to do what you love.

This weekend was:

Brunch with girlfriends at Five Points. I had a yummy brioche french toast with pecans and mascarpone.

Shopping in Soho, with a pit stop at the Cupcake Stop truck. The red velvet was not bad.

The September Issue at the Sunshine Theater. I don't know if I loved this movie. It was alitle slow for me. I loved Grace Coddington though. She is such a amazing image creator. What exactly does Andre Leon Talley do? It looks like he does jack shit.

Dinner at Pinto with good friends. They have the coolest way of serving thai iced tea and the food is always tasty!

Then off to bed with my snuggle buddy.

The weather last Friday, felt like a night out of Seattle. Rainy, misty and cold. Its was a refreshing change and weather like that always makes me crave comfort food.

I confess I am a member of the church of David Chang. Momofuku ssam bar is one of my favorite places to eat in the East Village. The food is reminiscent of all the Korean flavors I grew up with but always with his creative twist.

The bf and I always start with the pork buns. The pork literally melts in you mouth and a dip of the sriracha sauce makes it heavenly.

Growing up, ddukboki (rice cakes) was one of my favorite comfort foods my mom or grandma would make for me. David Chang's version tastes like a sophisticated version with pork and crispy shallots.

Conveniently, right next door is dessert at Milk Bar. Another addition to the Momofuku family.

My favorite cookie was the cornflake chocolate chip marshmellow cookie. Try saying that fast.

fashions night out

Today I was in Soho after work returning something. I caught the start of events going on for Fashions Night Out. There was definitely a buzz in the air. It felt like Halloween for fashionistas. Everyone was dress in their fashion best and every store had some kind of "treat" to giveaway.

Just walking down Prince Street, was an awesome pre dinner snack.

I got a mini cupcake from the Cupcake Stop truck parked outside of Club Monaco.

I got a Good Humor ice cream bar from the vintage ice cream truck parked in front of Rachel Roy.

I got to check out the new collection, "Style Black" at MAC while munching on mini fried mac and cheese balls and sipping a mini Perrier.

The line for BAPE was crazy! Devoted Pharrell fans waiting to get things signed.

I tried to get a manicure from Chanel, but everyone was waiting to paint their nails in the new Chanel Jade color. So I settled for a glass of champagne instead.

I wish I could have checked out more events but my dinner date was waiting. Overall, I think the event was a great idea that should be done again next year!

I recently stopped by Anthropologie for some trend shopping for work. The store always smells good, but today it made my nostrils perk up. They had two of these Goji and Tarocco orange Voluspa candles burning in large glass vases and the scent filled the entire store. It was a pretty large space too!

The candle smells amazing! The first initial whiff smells like Haribo gummy bears and the tail end you catch a burst of orangey citrus goodness.

I bought one and I cant wait till I fill my studio with this delicious scent. They also have other heavenly sounding scents I need to go back for. Next on my list is Panjore Lychee. It is a blend of ripe lychee and pear, warmed by smooth vanilla bean. Sounds good enough to eat!

The bf always makes fun of me because my purse usually is like a suitcase. I always pack everything I would need for any worst case scenario. So you can imagine how heavy it gets! I put my bag collection on a constant rotation. This week I'm loving my slate blue/grey Balenciaga Matelasse bag. I scored this at the Woodbury Outlets a few months ago. It felt too heavy looking for summer so I was saving it for a fall. It seems as if there is a hint of fall in the air this week in NYC.

Inside my "suitcase":

-Vanilla macarons from Bouchon Bakery. I always carry snacks, just in case my food baby starts nagging.

-Keys with all my sentimental key chains

-iPod touch. Always need my music.

-Marc Jacobs coin purse for my work badges and metro card.

-Sephora brilliant shine lipgloss in rosy glow. My hands down favorite lip gloss out there. Its not sticky and goes on really smooth. I've been through two tubes already.

-Cellphone. Haven't crossed over to Blackberry/iPhone land yet.

-Gucci wallet from the days when the bf worked at Gucci.

-Vintage RayBan aviators from my dad. He bought these brand new in the 70's for $40 bucks. They are still good as new and stylish as ever. Goes to you show you some things never go out of style.

-My new book, Pride and Prejudice with cover from Ruben Toledo.

-Marc Jacobs makeup bag with way too much stuff to show. You name it I have it in that bag. Bandaids, asprin, tissues, etc. Its a mini Duane Reade in there.

In highschool, I used to love wearing colored mascara. It added alittle pop of color on my eyes without wearing too much eyeshadow or any eyeliner. My favorite was a cobalt blue and teal color from the Sephora brand. Straight on, it didnt look like anything different, but from a side view thats when the color pops.

I cant wait to get my hands on the new grey mascara from YSL called sublime grey. I think it will pair nicely with a deep crimson red lipstick.

I love lazy Saturday mornings. I live for lazy Saturday mornings.
I could literally stay in bed all day just rolling around until my grumbling stomach nags me to get up.

The bf and I spent most of the morning looking through my food blogs. The theme on one of them was BBQ. Another theme was cupcakes. After seeing one delicious picture after the next, the only thing on our brains were BBQ and CUPCAKES! We had to have them.

Headed to Q for our cravings. I devoured a pulled pork sandwich, licking my fingers with each bite.

He had the ribs.

Then we washed it with a endless supply of sweet tea that came in mason jars.

One of the perks of working in fashion is taking home unused inspiration samples. We bought this Philip Lim top during a shopping trip in Europe. Luckily for me, its an XS and has served its purpose. It is the softest jersey material and the I love the paisley cutout motif.

I confess I'm a Sephora addict. So when their catalog shows up in my mailbox, I cant wait to tear through it. My eyes gloss over and I start circling all the new goodies I need to try or buy.

This months catalog included their new line of nautral eyeshadow and lipgloss, called Sephora Pure.Which means 95% natural ingredients and 10% organic ingredients. Lately, I've been more conscious about what I'm putting on my skin. I dont like the idea of putting all those unnatural ingredients on my skin and I think my skin has improved ever since I've cut back on those chemicaly products.

They have gorgeous color palette, called Star Gazer. I love how all the colors can easily go from day to night. It comes in a very chic sustainable bamboo compact in black. The texture is AMAZING. It is nothing like I've felt before. It is cashmere for the eye lids!! The color is so pretty on too.

I hope they expand the line cause I love it!

I finally got to see Julie & Julia. Meryl Streep was wonderful as Julia Child. Her laugh, walk and mannerisms were perfectly Julia. I went to the movie hungry and that was a big mistake. All the food porn made my stomach grumbly and my mouth salivating. After the movie, I stopped by Barnes and Nobles to see if I could pick up her famous cookbook and of course, Mastering the Art of French Cooking was sold out.

I love using Polyvore to play stylist. Its such a fun tool to kill time and just release some creative juices.

I made this set a year ago and was dreaming of it to be my "if i ever go to paris" outfit. The skirt is from Chloe and the top from Proenza Schouler. The other day while browsing around H&M for work, I found the skirt in the exact shade which instantly brought me to back to my Polyvore set.

So here it is from virtual world to real world. I just need to buy a baguette and I'm all set for my Parisian adventure in New York.

Another posting about fall! This gross weather is really getting to me. Plus my inbox, twitter and blogs are filling my brain with images of pretty fall things!

I came across these pictures from the Zara website today. Ok major SWOON! They are always the go-to store for affordable runway knockoffs. I see Balmain, Givenchy, Chloe! Oh my!

My three favorite looks. I really need to try on those sculpted shoulder looks. Are they only flattering if you're size 2 and 5'10? I don't want to end up looking like a short linebacker. Can't wait for these looks to hit the stores.

fall must haves

After months of complaining about cold weather and dying for sun. I'm quickly reminded how summers in NYC feel like. Stickiness, humidity, sweat with occasional downpours and you got yourself a hot mess.

Now here I am wishing for some crisp fall air. The grass is always greener on the other side.

I cant wait to start shopping! I made my first purchase towards fall this weekend. Picked up a black trench at Barneys Outlet at Woodbury Commons. More pics later.

Ruben Toledo has designed covers for three classic novels; Pride and Prejudice, Wuthering Heights and The Scarlet Letter. These pretty books will hit shelves this Fall.

When I'm on the subway or bus, I dont like showing which book I'm reading. Maybe its something I learned from my Dad, but he would cover all his books with paper. l definitely will be showing these titles off.

I've seen Korres products in magazines here and there.On my occasional trips to Sephora too, but I didnt pay too much attention to them since there are 439853 new hyped up skin care lines popping up every second with promises of this and that.

With my birthday coming up soon and the dread of growing a year older, my thoughts turned to...WRINKLES!

I haven't really found any on my face yet, so the idea may be a little premature but it doesnt hurt to start early!

I started using the Evening Primrose eye cream from Korres and I love it! Its smooth and light with no fragrance. Another plus it it has SPF.

Besides the fact that it has 100% natural ingredients. Its also from one of the first homeopathic pharmacies in Ancient Greece.

Can't wait to go to their new store in Soho and stock up on more goodies!

Dont want to end up looking like recent lezzie hohan!!! She is 21 years old!!! What the hell! Good god look at her eyes.
